COMMUNICATION TIPS

Research shows that children do better in school when there is good communication skills with their teacher.  Talking often with your childs teacher can build a trust that is noticed by your child.  There are a number of ways that parents and teachers can communicate with each other rather than relying on the teachers assistant or a scheduled teachers conference..  Close communication between parents and teachers can help your child.

*Participate in school activities and events.  This adds opportunity to communicate with your childs teacher.

*  Become involved with school functions after hours.  This gives the teacher and parent the possibility to interact outside the classroom.

*  Have input on decisions that may affect your childs education.  Lesson plans and activities are posted at all times in the hallway

*  Make an effort to meet your childs teacher in the beginning of the school year.  This help the teacher understand you and your child

*  Make your childs teacher aware of your concerns about your child.  This helps teachers understand that you are concerned about your childs education and that you support them.

*  Be a volenteer.  Although pre school has limited opportunity for parent volenteer, when this opportunity comes up, be the 1st to say you want in.

*  Concerns about an incident that happened should only be spoken about with your childs teacher.  Phone calls to your childs teacher will get you the answers you are looking for.  If an incident happens out of your childs teachers hands, please talk to the teachers assistant at all times.  If you feel something important should be brought to the directors attention, please contact them directly.

*  Conferences are held in our preschool ages 3-5.  One is in November to discuss the concerns and improvments to make, the second is in May to discuss the improvements your child has made since November.  When approaching conferences, this is a chance to communicate one on one with your child teacher.  It is important to keep an open mind and start a partnership with your teacher so you can both guide your child to the right path.

*  We encourage you to write notes to your childs teacher about concerns you have regarding anything.

*  Your childs teacher will be giving you a "my day" sheet in which explains what your child did for the day.

*  It is very important to take home and read everything from your childs cubby everyday.  Questions may arise if your childs newsletters are not taken home.  This is the number 1 problem with communication negativity.  Deadlines pass, holidays off or holiday parties when your teacher asks you for a party item will go unnoticed.

*  We are here to help you with your child, please dont hesitate to ask questions.  This is our profession.

*  Continue to do what the teacher has been doing.  Excersize your childs routine at home and follow through with the daily schedule.

*  Make copies of all teacher notes, physicians notes and therapist notes

*  Upon calling a director or a teacher, please let them know the full detailed story of what is going on with the situation.  If talking to the director after talking to the teacher, the director will confront the teacher with this situation and they will respond with "no, she/ he said this"  this leads to communication problems.
